Two years ago I was sitting on the gunwale next to a professional sailor, the lay line was long and he give me a bright idea “Pietro, you go sailing, you master polymers and adhesives, why don’t you develop new tapes and films against the wear and tear of the deck and the mast?”
I got started immediately in setting the expected product performances, selecting the best polymers (UHMWPE, PTFE, PP), the adhesives (acrylic, silicone, solvent and hot melt), optimizing the manufacturing processes with the most advanced partners till the target was reached.
The result is PROtect, a complete product range designed for marine applications.
Today I can proudly say that PROtect are widely used on America’s Cup, Maxi, Wally, Super Yachts, Swan, Volvo, TP, One-Designs and on most of the racing boats where extra protection of the deck or the rigging is required.
